Pastor Mike's Bible Reading Plan
This plan uses the daily calendar and five bookmarks in your Bible to provide structure. It has been developed to provide a “balanced” reading of the Bible with readings taken from the Wisdom literature (Proverbs and Psalms), the Old Testament, the life of Christ (four gospels), and the remainder of the New Testament. The plan emphasizes reading just enough of a Scripture text in order to think and meditate on it. Readers are encouraged to write short thoughts from each passage in a journal and then write out a prayer based on the Scriptures read that day. After completing the day’s reading, choose one short Bible phrase to repeat over and over during the day.
Read one chapter of Proverbs each day according to the calendar date. (for example: on January 3 rd read Proverbs 3—you will completely read through the book of Proverbs each month)
Read one chapter of Psalms each day according to the calendar date. (for example: on January 3 rd read Psalm 3, February 3 read Psalm 33, etc.—you will completely read through the book of Psalms every five months)
Starting in Genesis, slowly read the Old Testament in a loop (skipping over Psalms and Proverbs)
Starting in Matthew, slowly read the four gospels in a loop
Starting in Acts, slowly read the remainder of the NT in a loop
Pastor Recommended Books
Letters to the Church by Francis Chan
Sit with Pastor Francis Chan and be reminded that you are a part of something much bigger than yourself, something sacred. In his most powerful book yet, Chan digs deep into biblical truth, reflects on his own failures and dreams, and shares stories of ordinary people God is using to change the world.
Radical by David Platt
Platt challenges you to consider how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple & invites you to believe what you have heard. He shares what is happening as a "successful" church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus.
Life of the Beloved by Henri J. M. Nouwen
Initially written for a Jewish friend, Life of the Beloved has become Henri Nouwen’s greatest legacy to Christians around the world. This sincere testimony of the power and invitation of Christ is indeed a great guide to a truly uplifting spiritual life in the world that we live in today.
